Background of the Study

Warehouse automation refers to the use of technology, such as robotics, conveyor systems, and automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), to streamline operations in warehouses and distribution centers. Automation has revolutionized warehouse management by reducing human error, improving inventory accuracy, and speeding up order fulfillment processes. As consumer expectations for fast and accurate delivery continue to rise, warehouse automation has become a key component in improving the efficiency and accuracy of supply chain operations.

Shoprite, a leading retail chain in Nigeria, operates numerous supermarkets across the country, including in Benue State. The company faces significant challenges in managing its large inventory and ensuring the timely and accurate fulfillment of customer orders. To improve the accuracy and speed of order fulfillment, Shoprite has implemented warehouse automation solutions in its distribution centers. The company aims to enhance inventory control, reduce order errors, and optimize the efficiency of its supply chain through the integration of automated systems.

This study will investigate the effect of warehouse automation on order fulfillment accuracy at Shoprite in Benue State, focusing on how automation has improved the company's ability to meet customer expectations and optimize its distribution processes.

Statement of the Problem

While warehouse automation is widely believed to improve order fulfillment accuracy, the extent to which it has impacted Shoprite’s operations in Benue State remains underexplored. Shoprite has invested in automated systems to enhance its warehouse operations, but the specific impact of these technologies on order accuracy and customer satisfaction has not been thoroughly examined. This study aims to address this gap by assessing how warehouse automation has affected order fulfillment accuracy at Shoprite in Benue State.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the impact of warehouse automation on order fulfillment accuracy at Shoprite in Benue State.

  2. To examine how warehouse automation has improved inventory control and reduced order errors at Shoprite.

  3. To explore the relationship between warehouse automation and overall supply chain efficiency at Shoprite.

Research Questions

  1. How has warehouse automation impacted order fulfillment accuracy at Shoprite in Benue State?

  2. How does warehouse automation contribute to improving inventory control and reducing order errors at Shoprite?

  3. What is the relationship between warehouse automation and supply chain efficiency at Shoprite?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Warehouse automation significantly improves order fulfillment accuracy at Shoprite in Benue State.

  2. The implementation of warehouse automation reduces inventory errors and improves overall inventory control at Shoprite.

  3. Warehouse automation is positively correlated with improved supply chain efficiency at Shoprite.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on assessing the effect of warehouse automation on order fulfillment accuracy at Shoprite in Benue State. Data will be collected through interviews, surveys, and analysis of operational records. Limitations may include the availability of data on automation performance and the complexity of isolating the effects of warehouse automation from other operational factors.
